Melbourne journalist Georgie Harvey and Daylesford, cop John Franklin are back, in the second novel in the Rural Crime Series, Dead Again, by author Sandi Wallace.
PRAISE FOR DEAD AGAIN
‘Dead Again is one of the new crop of Aussie crime stories that hopefully turn the world from Scandi Noir to Aussie Noir; family tensions and despair on a background of a harsh land and climate, and Wallace adds her sprinkle of romance.’ Anne Buist, author of Dangerous to Know
‘Sandi Wallace brings to life the complexities of a small town coming to grips with disaster, throws in a mystery that could shatter them all, and gifts us a determined and beautifully reckless heroine.’ Vanda Symon, author of the best-selling Sam Shephard series
‘Dead Again cuts to the chase with edgy, suspense-laden drama that exposes the dark secrets of a town shattered by loss. Once again, award-winning writer Sandi Wallace delivers a punchy read, cementing her place in Australian crime writing.’ Monique Mulligan, reviewer, publisher, and author
‘A gem of a book. Not only is there a gripping storyline in Dead Again but also an emotional depth not always found in the crime genre.’ J.M. Peace, serving police officer and author of A Twisted Knot
‘Ghosts from a past, their footprints left in the ashes of a devastated town. Sandi Wallace has mastered rural crime, and in Dead Again, does not disappoint.’ B. Michael Radburn, author of the Taylor Bridges series
‘Sandi talked about her ideas for a crime series set in rural Victoria when I first met her through Sisters in Crime – and I was thrilled she asked me five years later to read this, her second instalment. Dead Again is a gripping twist on the bushfire threat all Australians live with.’ Jaye Ford, award-winning author of Darkest Place
It is almost two years since horrendous wildfires ravaged the tiny town of Bullock. Melbourne journalist Georgie Harvey is on assignment in the recovering town to write a feature story heralding the strength of the community on the anniversary of the fires.
Meanwhile, in nearby Daylesford, cop John Franklin is investigating a spree of vandalism and burglaries, while juggling life as a single parent and his ambitions to trade his uniform for plain clothes.
When Georgie’s story connects with the crimes in Daylesford, she uncovers the appalling truth about a family man missing since the fires. And she is thrown back into conflict with John Franklin, a man she’s been trying to forget since their first encounter, eight months earlier.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Before pursuing her lifelong dream to be a crime writer, SANDI WALLACE served stints as banker, paralegal, cabinetmaker, office manager, executive assistant, personal trainer and journalist – all providing fodder for her stories. But if she hadn’t turned to writing, she believes that she would have been a police detective. Sandi combines that interest in policing and her love for country Australia into authentic, gritty, rural crime novels.
Her first novel in the Rural Crime Series, ‘Tell Me Why‘ (published by Clan Destine Press), won the 2015 Davitt Award Readers’ Choice. Sandi works as a personal trainer and lives in the hills outside Melbourne with her husband and furry family.
