About us

Atlas Productions’ Books is a boutique publisher in Queensland, Australia. It was founded in 2009.

Our team:

We have a dedicated list of authors and publish Australian titles in a diverse range of genres. Atlas Productions is a member of the Small Press Network and the Copyright Agency, and Atlas founder, Helen Goltz, is a member of the Australian Crime Writers’ Association and Sisters in Crime Australia (Helen is also a co-convenor of Sisters in Crime, Queensland).

Atlas Productions consists of a pool of writers, editors and design contractors specialising in their genres.

Director: Atlas Productions is owned by journalist/author, Helen Goltz.

Helen has enjoyed over 30 years in the media working as a journalist and producer in television (the Seven Network), radio (Fairfax/Macquarie Media) and print (News Ltd., bmag, and community titles). She has also worked as a publicist/marketer for corporate clients include Becker and Dendy Films, the Queensland Orchestra, Back Track Adventures, Suncorp, the Brisbane (Bears) Lions AFL team and The Courier-Mail.

Helen is the author of ten fiction and seven non-fiction books published by Atlas Productions and Clan Destine Press.

Editors and proofreaders:

Joanne James: Joanne’s editing experience extends from proofreading university handbooks and course guides to editing annual reports and publicity brochures for local government.

With a background in primary school teaching, noticing grammar and spelling mistakes is second nature to her and she has been known to correct take-away menus and return them to restaurants! Joanne is the editor of the Grave Tales series.

Manuscript assessment and proofreading:

We also use and highly recommend Dr Amanda Apthorpe and Sally Odgers.

Stephanie Johnson: Steph is the family history researcher for the Grave Tales series. Her experience and passion expand over a decade.

A self-described ‘Genealogy Enthusiast’ and ‘Cemetery Creeper’ she likes to say she loves dead people! Her strong attention to detail, administrative and project management experience aimed at achieving positive outcomes complement her dedication to family history research perfectly.

Marketing and publicity:

Promotion of a title requires both the Atlas team and the author to be actively engaged. We manage this in-house but use a variety of resources to support this, which might include sourcing early reviews through NetGalley, or taking the book on ‘virtual tour’ which works well in the romance and fantasy genre.

Our extensive media list and background in media ensures we know how to pitch, in the hope of getting interviews across the line. On specialist projects, we have used and recommend in Queensland, Rebecca Pini and her team at Made4Media. In Sydney we have used and recommend Debbie McInnes and her team at DMCPR.

We are proud to have select titles distributed by Novella Distribution. Rochelle, Rowena, Lucy, Georgina, Emily and all the wonderful Novella team can assist retailers and libraries to stock our titles.

All other titles are available from iPage.

Cover design:

Cover design is done in-house with specialist covers outsourced including:

Whispers in the Wiring was created by Josephine Fagan;
